Free family events

Like many other cities in the state of Tennessee and indeed across the country, residents of Loudon enjoy getting together as a community to celebrate the holidays with close friends, family and neighbors so there are some great events throughout the year – including those out with the particularly hectic schedule of the busy summer period – that are not to be missed.

These include the Annual Easter Egg Hunt which us held annually in Loudon Municipal Park on the Saturday before Easter. This custom originated in the USA with the early Europeans settlers – and the German Lutherans in particular – and accordingly to legend, the Easter Bunny comes into town carrying a basket of brightly colored eggs and candy for local children. Much like Father Christmas, he then decides if children have been good or bad with the former rewarded with Easter Eggs and the latter left empty handed. Of course, nowadays this is a much more lighthearted affair and all children in the area are welcome to participate in the park to join the Easter Bunny as they hunt for candy and eggs filled with prizes from over 3,000 hidden throughout the area. Easter-Egg-HuntThis event begins at noon and is absolutely free so it is a great day out that the whole family can enjoy but remember to bring your Easter basket to carry all the goodies your children can find.

Christmas time is one of the most popular events of the year and Loudon residents love to get in the seasonal mood with their Decorating the Tree event which is held on the 7th December near the fountain in the downtown area of the city. A large pine tree is erected and everyone is welcome to join in to decorate it while local children from the kindergarten classes distribute refreshments – kindly donated by a local diner – and carol singers entertain the crowds to get everyone in the mood. This free event is organized by Loudon Merchants & Property Owners Association and it certainly enhances the community spirit and brings the city’s residents together during this special time of year. The following day there is also a special children´s event that includes Lunch with Santa, for boys and girls up to 4th Grade only, however at least one parent per child must be present too. This is held at the Loudon Parks & Recreation Office however due to limited seating these $10 tickets tend to sell out fast so make sure you register before 1st December deadline to ensure your child is not disappointed.

Later in the day there is the annual Christmas Parade followed by the annual Christmas in Olde Loudon Event, from 6pm to 8pm. This will be the 6th annual event of this kind which now includes The Grinch, Wagon Rides through Downtown Loudon, a Bonfire (courtesy of the local Fire Department), a nativity area, petting zoo and pony rides for the kids as well as a variety of arts and crafts stalls, music, prizes and refreshments so this is definitely something that the whole family can enjoy, and it is free!
