Attorneys

Joseph R. Ford

Joe was born is Augusta, Georgia in 1965 and moved to Loudon, Tennessee in 1978 when his father took a job at Watts Bar Nuclear Power Plant as a pipe-fitter working out of Local #150 of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Union of Augusta. Joe is a 1983 graduate of Loudon High School as is his partner and life long friend, Brian Nichols. He obtained his undergraduate degree (B.S. Business, 1987) and law degree (J.D. 1990) from the University of Tennessee.
Joe worked for several insurance defense firms in Knoxville, Tennessee in the early part of his career defending cases in all counties in East Tennessee. He has maintained a private practice in Loudon, Tennessee since 1997. Joe has spent all of his legal career working in the area of civil litigation including car wrecks, wrongful death, workers’ compensation, premises liability and retaliatory discharge. He has extensive experience dealing with insurance companies and all facets of handling cases through the trial and appellate levels of the legal system.

Joe is married to his college sweetheart, Kristin, and they have two beautiful daughters, Holly and Sally, and they live in Lenoir City, Tennessee. He was recently inducted into the Loudon High School Baseball Hall of Fame and is an avid sports fan. He and his family are members of Christ Covenant Presbyterian Church in Farragut, Tennessee. Joe’s family is involved with Young Life in Loudon County and Kristin has been a volunteer with Young Life participating in weekly club and summer camps since 2002.

Brian E. Nichols

Brian E. Nichols was born and raised in Loudon County, Tennessee. Brian gradated from Middle Tennessee State University in 1989 with a Bachelor of Science degree in English. After a career as a high school English teacher and football coach, Brian returned to law school in 2001. Brian graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 2004 at the top of his class, and won the Tennessee Attorney General’s Award for Excellency in Trial Advocacy.

Brian is currently a member of the Loudon County School Board ethics committee.

Ashley Harrison Shudan

Ashley Harrison Shudan was born in Huntsville, Alabama and grew up in Philadelphia, Tennessee. Ashley graduated from The George Washington University in Washington, DC in 2005 with a B.A. in Political Science, and dual minors in Criminal Justice and Psychology. Ashley returned to Tennessee for law school and graduated from The University of Tennessee College of Law in 2008 with a concentration in Advocacy and Dispute Resolution. While in law school, Ashley participated in the Advocacy Clinic, served on the moot court board, and was a research assistant for the Tennessee Journal of Law & Policy. She received awards for second best brief and second place team in the UT College of Law’s Advocates’ Prize Competition for appellate advocacy, and was recognized for her outstanding achievement in public interest law.

Before joining Ford & Nichols in 2009, Ashley spent almost four years assisting in the defense of government entities against civil liability, as both a law clerk and lawyer. Her practice included representing county governments, school boards, sheriff’s departments, and their employees across east Tennessee in the areas of civil rights, Section 1983 liability, Constitutional law, employment discrimination, wrongful termination, Title IX, and general governmental tort liability.

Ashley currently represents the Loudon, Tennessee Housing Authority and the Loudon County Industrial Development Bond Board.
